xFire is a gaming Instant Messenger that allows you to communicate while in a game with friends but it’s much more than that. xFire offers a full “instant” gamers solution to gaming time tracking, blogging, screenshots and video capture. You can maintain your own blog however you may like. It’s not a full featured blog like WordPress but if your world revolves around gaming it’s sufficient or you can link to your external blog. The game time tracking allows you to track how much time you play in every game that is supported by xFire (which is just about all mainstream games as well as many games dating back over the past decade). Screenshots allow you to capture screenshots while playing and when you exit or minimize the game you have the option to upload them with a caption or delete them. Once uploaded you can browse your online library. Capturing video is a more recent update but it will allow you to capture in-game videos and upload them after exiting or minimizing the game. One of the other features that’s still in beta is doing “Live” broadcasting of your in-game expreience. There are options to adjust privacy as you see fit. Go check it out or download the client!

This is a selfish plug that (my station) The Sounds of Christmas is up and operating on Live365! You can swing by the site and click on the Listen Now button and start dreaming of a white Christmas. I’ll continue to try and mix in Christmas related sites over the next month and a half. The station plays a broad range of music from country to classics to humor and always open to suggestions and independant artists.

Microsoft SyncToy 2.0Posted by: JT in Windows, tags: Administration, Backup, Microsoft, Networking, Sync, Tools
Microsoft has a great utility for backing up files from one PC to another or to another drive with little effort. You select the source folders that you’d like to have backed up, select a backup folder (they call it folder pairs) and click run and it does the work for you. There are 3 options to choose: Synchronize, Echo or Contribute. Synchronize will allow you sync files from both sources with the most current. This would be handy if you have a few PCs that you like to keep the files up-to-date with the most current versions. Echo is just a straight backup from your source folders to the share. The files that have been modified or deleted in your source folder are deleted or updated on the backup folder. Contribute is similar to echo but no files are deleted. You can grab a copy at Microsoft.com! Here’s a quick screenshot (click to enlarge):
